| Welcome!
As a senior at Purdue University, I’m majoring in professional writing with minors in Spanish and psychology.
My study abroad experience in Spain this past summer greatly increased my level of fluency. However, when I first stepped off the American encrusted plane in early June, I found myself trapped in a flood of people emitting unfamiliar noises and gestures in my direction. Before the language became more comprehensible, I could only observe my surroundings.
Words were everywhere, whether they were painted across the front of a storefront, printed on a child’s shirt, coated on the pages of a magazine, or spread through the airwaves from the speakers of a television. Words help everyone across the world to live each day. The families of Spain rely on their news just as heavily as those in the United States. It was here, while I was lost without a way to communicate in a foreign country, when I realized how severely important words are to our lives.
I want to live my own life spreading words to those who need to hear them. My goal is to combine my passions of writing and music into a career in entertainment journalism.
My past work experience includes reporting jobs for various publications and a position as features editor at the Purdue Exponent, Purdue University's independent daily student newspaper. I am also the publicity director for the Purdue Student Concert Committee, a group that has furthered my experience in the music business for the past three years.
After my graduation in May 2009, I plan to work freelance at beneficial publications while looking for additional opportunities near my hometown in the southwest suburbs of Chicago.
